  • Great sound! Nice one.

  • Kurt Cobain was a guest vocalist on this song for Mark Lanegan's first solo album, The Winding Sheet, which was recorded in 1989 while Nirvana's "Unplugged" album was recorded in 1993. Personally I prefer Nirvana's version, but both are among my favorite musicians.

  • @Contorsionista4

    no, it is not...

there are songs before Nirvana actually...

  • @strangeshane nice!! you got me addicted to lead belly now and i realized he sang the Animals house of the rising sun too... thanks!

  • @Contorsionista4

nop this song is folk son but nirvana do a cover and well thecover was really god =D

  • @diabolikal1990 It is by an old, old, blues singer/songwriter called "Lead Belly" Kobain and Lanegan were going to make Lanegan's first solo album, before Nirvana got famous, back in 1990, but the project was shelved, with only the cover by Lanegan with Kobain on electric guitar seeing the light of day on Lanegan's first solo record, Nirvana did it on MTV unplugged. The original was by lead belly.

  • @Contorsionista4 it is by nirvana. lanegan sang the cover and he has a version with cobain also.

  • hope yall know that kurt cobain and krist novoselic played on the album version with mark lanegan so stop all the bitching about which is best

  • @Contorsionista4 This is an old folk song usually known as 'In The Pines.' Traditionally it is associated with Leadbelly. Playing for Lanegan in '91 (on his excellent album 'The Winding Sheet') actually introduced Nirvana to the song!

  • @Contorsionista4

This is a traditional American folk song which dates back to at least the 1870s
