@MrShaneVicious The original plan devised by Von Schleiffen did plan a German attack through the Netherlands. Remember, it was a strong right flank attack that was to capture the ports to inhibit British reinforcements. Von Moltke altered the original plan in and removed the attack through the Netherlands. You are right in that the Netherlands does not lead into France. I don't think it would have worked anyway.

@villanovakid84 The Plan did not include the Netherlands. That would have been a waste as the Netherlands does not lead into France, Belgium does.

It's so interesting to see what WWI was like in 1914, and then to see what it was like in 1918. It is almost as though they were two completely different wars. I suppose that's why this war interests me so much.

Von Moltke did not adhere to the Schleiffen plan as he did not attack through the Netherlands. Whether it would have been successful if he did, i am not sure. Kudos to the Belgian army for a spirited defense of their country.
