here is a review of a Custom JJ Monkeypod guitar made by Master Luthier Jeffrey Yong from Malaysia. The guitars spots a bevel armrest with a carefully thought thru design cutaway bevel, a 5 piece neck that is very stiff, with a lovely soundport allowing you to capture every note that is played by the player.

Nicely figured Monkeypod top, back and sides. The guitar is bound in ebony with violin purfling on the whole guitar. Malaysia Blackwood headstock headplate and backplate with Gold Gotor tuners. The fretboard end at the bass side are all scalloped till the 12th fret. This allows the thumb easy access for running bass notes.

A guitar exhibits a wide dynamic sound range with deep lows couple with even trebles that balance it out with the mids that is evidently heard from the monkeypod wood.

The top of the guitar is individually selected. They are tap tune and voice to maximize and bring out the full potential of the wood. The soundhole rosette spots a Maccassar ebony wood. Beneath the sound hole is reinforced with a donut shape wood glued. This stiffens the soundhole whereby when the strings are strucked...the energy is evenly distributed towards the rest of the top and back sides ..translating into a dynamic yet loud sounding guitar with character.

  • great guitar:) proud to be playing them!

  • Sweet

  • I have contacted him since last year, Joshua Tan knows the details.

  • Jeffrey Yong choosen not to reply to my request. I suggest you check your guitar neck, fingerboard and body alignment too and advise you not to take your guitar out side of the area that he build the guitar. all my other Gibson, Martin and Taylor cost cheaper and never had problem of finish, alignment and crack problem ! Apologise, I will continue to write in the public until he reply to my request instead of hiding away !

  • Of course I know him. trust me I contacted him and requested for rebuilt a guitar of us$4500.- I am a retired person, the purchase is pure friendship consideration and to support him in the Shanghai guitar show in 2009. Sorry to post in your utube but I have to get my justice and warned people the other side of him. I am seeking legal advise against him and welcome him to do the same.

  • @tw55555 MR THOMAS WONG...if you have any problems please contact Jeff directly since you know him..rather than post this on my channel..thanks..

  • @tw55555 er friend..if you have any problem then you meet the maker..ok..please don't post negative comments like this here as we are only reviewing guitars..plus it doesn't reflect well when you put someone down like that. Cheers ..have a great day..that's a just a thought..

  • It sound really good even without amp!

  • Taylor sits in well with the mix, JY's guitar stands out like a star. Solo instrument vs recording instrument. Both very different but brilliant masterpieces.

  • Truss rod cover design is simply amazing ... Just discovered the Monkey Pod Wood as a guitar wood ... very interesting sound ... This guitar is a real masterpiece ...
