This is a good project for a beginning smith. It teaches some basic processes. It's also a useful tool :)

  • I made one of these out of an old wood stove poker. It already had a coiled wire handle for heat control. They are sold commercially as meat inspection hooks.

  • @BornRandy62 That's cool, I have never seen a commercial version.

  • @ArtistBlade1972 check out barr brothers dot com without any spaces. I was going to make a meat hook also but the purchased versions used stainless steel with food grade plastic handles that clean up for sanitation. used for handling food afterall. that was my reasoning.

  • @blacksmither1 Thanks man

  • @ArtistBlade1972 alright thanks for the info man and awesome looking flipper

  • @blacksmither1 I reckon about 18". You can adjust to whatever length you want though... Just start with something roughly twice as long as you want the finished product. Providing you forge the handle the same...

  • @ArtistBlade1972 and after the forging?

  • @blacksmither1 About 32"
