Montreal Expo Dennis Martinez

When Martinez was arrested for drunk driving on a rainy november night of 1983, the news not only made the headlines in Baltimore the next day but also prompted him to seek treatment for what he had not yet realized was a drinking problem.

Two more uncharacteristic seasons with the Orioles went by and led the upper-management there to believe they had seen the best of Dennis and in 1986 after 10 years of faithful service, they traded him to Montreal.

Dennis showed up with a positive attitude and with the strong determintation to show each and every person in the baseball world he wasn't washed out as many thought he was.

Within no more than a year, not only did he regain the quality level he was expected from but he made his way to a perfect game against the Dodgers in 1991.

From that rainy november night, pushed against the police car with cuffs on and blinding police car lights in the face, El Presidente had turned it into a perfect july California day through hard work and perseverence.
