Multi-touch technologies are all the rage, letting people use multiple fingers to zoom, pinch and manipulate objects on screen in everything from the iPhone to Microsofts upcoming Windows 7 operating system. But what about multi-touch on a mouse?

  • From the company that invented the first optical mouse with sub-coordinate tracking at a time when everyone had mechanical ball mice. Microsoft not only invented these technologies but has had many different types of mice. I don't care that they lead in this area, but what gets me is apple fans are always quick to assume it's copied from apple because that's what they are fed from from mac ads. MS definitely leads in the concept of making tracking technologies that follow movements etc.

  • The first mouse made me think of the Magic Mouse :P

  • @Big0ldBear Aw, thats cute. You think the trackpad and iPad were made by Apple first? All Apple did was get multitouch and apply it to their existing products, as well as tablet PCs that were already out at the time and touch phones that also existed. What I'm saying is, they invented nothing - they simply IMPROVED (not invented) existing multitouch technology and applied it to already existing products.

Also, zoomcow is talking about MS, not Bill Gates; you do know he left MS a while ago right?

  • he got the same sidewinder that i have!!!!

  • @zoomcow You are wrong, and should stop licking Bill Gates asshole. Magic mouse, Apple first. Trackpad, Aplle first. iPad, Apple first. Ipod touch, nano touch, Apple first. iPhone, Apple first. Everyone, including microsoft copy apples touch and other technologies. Yet despite the copying, Apple make the only laptops with glass muti touch pads that integrate with a fully touch oriented OS. How can you call someone leaders when they're miles behind?

  • @zoomcow its funy they invented all these thins and "lead" in all these areas in "technologies trackin movments" or wutever, but yet they kept their halo players stuck to gamepads playin shit people were usin mice for 15 years ago.

  • problem is, that people seem to miss, is these are all prototypes, never got beyond idea stage. Apple have actually designed a successful multi-touch mouse. it's released and working. i don't know what came first out of the magic mouse and the multi touch mouse here and neither do you. there's no real way of knowing when Apple started development on the Magic Mouse.

  • @zoomcow:

You gotta read little bit of history before making such claims.

First mouse was invented by Engelbart in arc, funded by arpa.

Engelbart made the first GUI in Stanford.

Xerox was first to make it commercially that too with a mouse.

Apple and microsoft were not even born by then.

Microsoft or apple has never done "any research" that changed the world. They just copied it and made it available to public. At a cost that makes people poor and them rich. Capitalistic Scums

  • but NOOOOOOO, microsoft is way better than mac... it's not like microsoft is just taking macs ideas and saying it's some big innovation... i'm so sick of microsoft

  • magic mouse ftw

  • @zoomcow: Sorry, but you are wrong. The optical mouse was developed in 1981 by a man named Richard Francis Lyon for Xerox, and has never had any associations with Microsoft. In fact, at one time the man worked for Apple.
