Be a fisherman's friend at www.greenpeace.org.uk/beafishermansfriend.
An overhaul of the law that governs fishing in Europe only happens every 10 years, so we need to make sure that this time, it works. We want a Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) that supports sustainable fishing, ends discards and puts the health of our seas first. Be a fisherman's friend. Join the campaign at www.greenpeace.org.uk/beafishermansfriend. Help us get it right.

    Beautifully made film.

    Vital message.

Watching an old wooden boat scrunch up onto the shingle, buying fish from the men who caught it, and heading home for the freshest possible fish supper is one of life's greatest pleasures.

It would be a crime to let stupid self-defeating legislation drown these heroes of our food heritage.

Happening world wide unfortunately. Last boats should be small boats!

Beautifully made film, but with a tragic message. The quota system seems to border on criminality when perfectly good fish have to be thrown overboard. What I truly don't understand is how places like Norway and Iceland seem to be able to manage their fish stocks extremely well. Ahh, wait a minute, they are not in the EU... sigh.

Unfortunately, the EU seems to be in the hands of big business. These fishermen are in the same trap as upland & marginal farmers.

I'm puzzled by the fact that Greenpeace is promoting this video. Would they feel the same way if these small fisherman (whom I support) were whaling instead? What if their livelihood was dependent on persistent fishing wild Atlantic salmon, or Yellowfin tuna whose stocks are already past the breaking point? I hope that the independent fishermen are successful and don't later find themselves at the mercy of another powerful group pushing them out of existence.

Does the group of people going to the third farm seem well informed? Does that same group of people think its better to drive the farmers out of business only to produce one good year of harvest, or should they let them grow steadily and sustainably so they can continue to produce for years to come?

Now this one group of people comes to the third farm, they either know nothing about how to work the land or don't care. They force the third farm to produce and over farm even further so that soon they will have nothing but but a dusty field. Yet in the short term they will have oh lets say one year of a very successful crop.

So what is better, one year of successful growing vs. years of steady sustainable production?

The Second has been sustained and remained productive because the people taking care of it know what to do with it.

The Third has been around for a short time, and is steadily lproducing fresh crops. However it is quickly going the way of the first farm and is getting over farmed year after year, the soil is going barren and is deprived of nutrients. Yet the ones taking care of it are forced to do so to meet up with production needs.

I'm just hearing an argument that's pro-government, which I'm not going against. What I'm arguing is that in this case the government is either ill-informed or just doesn't plain care about their people and their history. Perhaps I should rephrase the question....

Lets say you know about these three farms, One has been over farmed and it has now turned into a barren field where nothing can grow.
