"The 12.12 Military Insurrection (12.12 사태 / 12.12 군사반란)" was a military coup d'état which took place on December 12, 1979 in South Korea.

Republic of Korea Army Lieutenant General Chun Doo-hwan(대한민국 육군소장 전두환), Defense Security Commander(보안사령관), acting without authorization from Acting President Choi Kyu-ha(최규하), ordered the arrest of General Jeong Seung-hwa(정승화), ROK Army Chief of Staff(육군참모총장), on allegations of involvement in the assassination of President Park Chung Hee(박정희).

This led to a bloody shoot-out at the Army Headquarters and the Ministry of Defense. By the next morning, Chun and not only his fellow eleventh class military academy graduates such as Major General Roh Tae-woo(노태우 소장), and, but also tenth class graduates, such as Lieutenant General Hwang Yeong-shi(황영시 중장), Lieutenant General Yoo Hak-seong(유학성 중장) and Lieutenant General Cha Kyu-heon(차규헌 중장) and more..

Chun was supported in the coup and the subsequent consolidation of power by the powerful private club of military officials called "Hanahoe Club(하나회)". The coup ended the Fourth Republic of South Korea and led to the Fifth Republic(제 5공화국) of South Korea.

This video includes my favorite scene of the Korean TV-Series "The 5th Republic (제 5공화국)" in 2005 by MBC. The scene describes The 12.12 Military Insurrection. The Capital Garrison Commander General Jang Tae-wan tried bravely to prevent this coup.

From 3:48 in this video, you can see the scene of talking on the phone. General Jang's talking on the phone is historically very famous story in this coup. General Jang bravely said to the members of Hanahoe Club very direct with swear words, although other generals tried to read General Chun´s mind.

His saying is very impressive and even makes fun in spite of the scene in serious situation. From this scene, some viewer of this series called him as "Jang-Force(장포스)". :)

  • @izumiyou1993 i wonder what u tedious right-wing japs do for ur country.

I seriously found so funny that u right wing japs say like Korea is poor race while japanese in fukushima are suffering from radiation.

Ur priority is to care about them, no time to waste time for bashing other countries like korea.

Plus, there is an island called Dokdo but there arent any places called takeshima, sorry.
