Last time I checked, I'm pretty sure cycles were allowed to be parked on the pavement!

a mind one xmas a lassies scarf got caught in the wheel and strangled her to death

They are not blocking the crossing at any moment in this clip. May i suggest you invest your time and money in a new set of glasses, they may improve your voyeurism skills.

Compare the minor obstruction caused by these pedicabs (which may help to define the road amongst the crowds and actually enhance safety), to the general antics of your average black cab; screeching to a halt with no indication, performing illegal U-turns and scowling and beeping their horn demanding instant passage through the crowds, safe in their bulletproof enclosure, removed from the outside world...

I can see where you are coming from with this... however, laws are written that they may be enforced, not that they must be- the authorities have judged the situation and concluded that the pedicabs offer no nuisance to the public good.

I find this ridiculous.
I am and have been a pedicabber for many years. at no point in this video does any pedicabbist cycle through a red light. they are all pushing their cabs. why not have a go at something that actually matters. like the number of cars on the roads in edinburgh when you could walk, cycle or get the bus so easily pretty much anywhere in the city.
If you are a shopkeeper or a restaurant who has a display or tables on the pavement the council will remove them. Their main concern is for public safety they say. If you have a car with a loud exhaust the police will stop you. If you ride a bicylcle then you can have no lights, drink alcohol, ride on the pavement and go through red lights.

Swamiestdonkey in reply to your second post i do not say pedicabs are environmentally unfriendly. Safer? I do not have any statistics for pedicabs, do you? These are both issues you raised. To make it clear the problem i have is with the standard of operation and the dual standards of the council and police.

Swampiestdonkey the pedicabs are blocking the pedestrian crossing. Only one road is closed and there is still traffic passing through the juntion from the other road. The point about the red light is hard to identify on this clip, but that is due to Youtube compressing the video. On the original version it is clear.
