Streaming TV to iPhone (Linux + VLC + HTML5 + PHP) (LQ)

I started my own project (for personal use) so as to stream TV to my iphone 3gs (with soft 3.1.3) and receive it trough the 3g network.

It is based on a linux box with VLC that captures the v4l device (a Leadtek Winfast TV 2000) and tunes the channels and another VLC process that converts that to h264 and segments the files. (Some info here: http://techblog.unwiredappeal.com/2010/03/vlc-http-live-streaming-module-patc...)

Then a PHP script produces a HTML5 site that lists all channels and each channel executes a bash script that tell the v4l device to tune another channel.

The stream has aprox 40-50 secs delay due to the generation of m3u8 file that is able to play on the iPhone. (each segment has 10secs and it need at least 5 segments)

Muy groso, que lastima que lo usas para desinformarte mirando canal 13 y tn. Lo pusiste 1 minuto random de un dia random y estaban sembrando el panico en todas las doñas rosas que lo ven dia a dia... villas, robos, miedo, miedo...

I also did something like this with my iPod touch 4g. I use an OTA antenna and I stream it directly on my iPod. But i'm getting some problems when try to get HD channel. It takes too much bandwidth. Do you know what codec should I use ? I'm with VLC. I've tried h264 and picture quality is pretty good. But the sound is always out of sync. Do you know how can I fix this ?
