Date: November 10, 2007/Cahuita, Costa Rica
This is buttercup, the first sloth that came to Avaiarios del Caribe, Sloth Rescue Center. Buttercup is an orphan. Her mom was most likely killed by an electrical power line or car. The Harpe Eagle and Jaguar used to be the main predators for sloths. Today most sloth deaths in Costa Rica are caused by cars and electrical power lines.
Are sloths actual quicker/faster in habitats like these than in nature? Do the live in large groups? And would it be difficult to transfer these groups to saver territory where they continue their lives? Or do they adapt to slowly to changing habitats?

Awww look at how she reachs her hand out, and grabs hold of a human's finger. She's been there since she was a baby in 1991 I wonder how old she is? Oh my god sloths can't touch power lines like birds can. :(
