  • My name is Andy Ames, and I was a patient of a 3rd ventriculostomy, in the spring of 2011. My shunt that I had for 23 years finally failed and this was the result. Heaven bless my doctor; he was amazing. I'm more awake and alive than I've been for 15 years. Memory, coordination, cognition; it's all improved.

  • Where are u from Andy?

  • I´m very glad to hear you, god bless your daughter

  • @nelsmo Wisconsin; My operation was performed at UW Madison...they're some of the best neurosurgeons in the world, and they are simply good people.

  • When I had a shunt revision operation in 2009, initially, the surgeons wanted to perform an endoscopic third ventriculostomy operation. But they found that they could not perform the operation as some important parts of my brain were in the way where they were going to operate. Instead, I had a programmable shunt fitted.

  • 6 years ago today I had this procedure when I was 17 years old. I am so blessed that they diagnosed the hydrocephalus in time and they were able to perform this operation. I believe that health care providers are amongst our every day heroes and I couldn't be happier with the care I have received over the years. Special thanks to Dr. Cataltepe and his team at UMASS Medical Center!

  • i had the ETV on monday at ucsf -- i didn't feel very good monday afternoon/evening, but on tuesday my family began commenting on my much improved gait, i feel more clear-headed and not so tired -- i think that this surgery and my surgeon are a MIRACLE!!

  • my 15yr old daughter had this done 12 months ago and it has been successful to date. this was her 2nd one after 1st attempt closed up after 2 months. Looks like this one has done the trick as last 3MRIs (most recent last month) shows all still functioning well. Was done at Kings in London - fabulous team! She had severe hydrocephalus when 1st diagnosed, but is now doing great. So glad she didn't get a shunt, and pray this ETV keeps working.
