Forza 3 - Ferrari - California

HD CAPTURE TEST NOTES:

TEST 1 = raw 1280x720, 60fps, unknown bitrate, 800MB, .AVI, capture file untouched, uploaded to YouTube.

TEST 2 = raw 1280x720, 60fps, unknown bitrate, 800MB, .AVI, capture file converted to 1280x720, 30fps, 7027kbps bitrate, 50MB, .WMV using Windows Movie Maker, uploaded to YouTube.
(This video.)

TEST RESULTS:

TEST 1 = FAIL: YouTube cannot handle the raw capture file and creates a horizontal scanline distortion effect. Ugly.

TEST 2 = WIN: YouTube handles the Windows Movie Maker file perfectly. It's beautiful.

Recorded using a Blackmagic Intensity Pro capture card and a four 7,200 RPM HD RAID-0 array Dell Precision T3400 workstation. We use this system to record professional game footage of our own games. Let me know what you think of the quality.

I am an indie game developer, part of a two-man team called XONA GAMES. We make Xbox LIVE games. Our current project is a 2D arcade shoot'em up, DUALITY ZF. It features 4x multiplayer and dual play, the ability to control two ships at the same time. Check it out:

  • Hey nice video,

Question about the Black Magic Capture Card, how many mbs a second does this card record at. Like how big would a 1 minute video of uncompressed footage be.

  • About 1MB / mintue with JPEG compression turned on, and 5MB / minute with it turned off (raw image files). I can only record with JPEG compression turned on, even with my four hard drive raid 0 array. The quality is high enough that you almost can't tell. I think they recommend 10..15 10,000 RPM hard drives in a raid 0 array in order to record ray 1080p footage...

  • Thanks for the info, I plan on buying one of these to capture footage for my xbox.

  • they recommend a 4 hard drive raid 0 array... which i also recommend as a minimum... faster drives and more drives is better! let me know how it goes!

  • @matthewdoucette Mind recording some gameplay footage for my own game?
