One of the most celebrated kickers in Ohio State football history once again sends the Buckeyes to the Rose Bowl. God bless him.

  • I was at that game in the north end of the field and the one thing I remember is that all of the fans at that end were quiet at first--they (and I)thought it was good. Then the zebra signalled no good and they went nuts. It was a gift.

  • so have i, and there is NO WAY IN HELL that that kick didn't go through the uprights.

  • @sivartab I watched it this morning, a year later, on the Big 10 Network it still looks the same, but the fact is that if it was up for review today it would not be indisputable evidence because it is just not clear where the ball crosses over the goal posts from that one angle and therefore the call on the field would stand. And, though I'm a Buckeye and do have a stake in the fight I also try to look at both sides once the heat of the game is over. 37 years should be enough.

  • @iamzbacku This is one of the most ridiculous statements. In those days of one TV angle and the short goal posts it was impossible to determine on TV exactly where the ball went. That's why they placed the officials right under the posts. Even with today's technology there are still some controversial ones. Was it good? Maybe. Were the refs biased? No.

  • He missed it....wide left....the ball went in front of the left upright.

  • @osdotf Yeah, okay, Princeton. That sounds correct. MSU was wearing a "winged" helmet design before (SC)UM was? And then dumped it when it became "old hat" (so to speak)? Wow! That oughtta go over well with fans of (SC)UM. NOT!!

  • @SFFOOL76 The college goal posts were 23 feet, 4 inches wide until 1991, when they were narrowed to the current 18 feet, 6 inches, like it is in the NFL. In the NFL, it is a requirement the uprights are 30 feet high. I know college is at least 20 feet, but I don't know if it's 30 or not. I'll have to look at the rule book.

  • The refs were scared stiff to call that good.

That was good and everyone knows it.

  • @80svideoluvr Crisler brought it from Princeton, but Michigan State had been wearing the winged Spalding helmet since 1933 -- 2 years before Princeton and 6 years before Michigan. Michigan State wore it until early in the 1947 season when it adopted the green Riddell suspension helmet.

  • I saw this game on the Big 10 network last night. I'm an Iowa Hawkeye fan so I have no dog in this fight but Michigan was robbed!!!! That field goal was good by a mile. Thank goodness the uprights are higher today.

  • @Tigersfan829 I'd say that the image seen on your YouTube profile makes it pretty obvious that you'd be just a BIT biased in favor of the Wolverwienies. Doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure THAT out!

  • @Tigersfan829 And you're right - "haters gonna hate." Until I see LESS (not MORE) evidence of Miss-again Wolverwienie fans being THE MOST POMPOUS ones in college football, I'm gonna be a "hater," all right!!
