@oker59 This house was built in the 1590s about a hundred years before Britain had any real say in India. BTW this is the new Hardwick Hall the ruins of the old house are still on this site which date back to the 14th century. Most of the great architectural masterpieces of England were built before the days of the empire.

I like what James Burke says, "a lot of these manor houses went up in the 1800s; of course a bunch of Indian prince fortunes went down at the same time!"

I'm not that impressed; there's hardly an arch in the place; about all that is fascinating is the chimney.

my last name is Hardage and im related to Elizabeth Hardwick or " Bess of Hardwick" i did some research and my last name has gone through abunch of changes throughout time. it orignally started out as heord, harditch, hardridge, hardedge, or hardwick. but in todays world it is known as hardage. i just thought it was interesting that im related to a lady that was the second most richest in England at her time but i live in the USA and the hardages came over to America in the 1500s

England is truly the mother of America in so many ways, which is why we over here on this side of the Atlantic are perpetually fascinated with England and her history.
