This video shows one of 3 water bearing zones in a former production well at Natural Tunnel State Park as logged on 4/1/08 by Virginia Department of Environmental Quality's Groundwater Characterization Program. This water-bearing zone is 297 feet below ground surface in this 6" diameter well drilled in limestone bedrock. Water from this zone is entering at considerable velocity under non-pumping conditions and is causing a zone of turbulence as it mixes with water from higher in the well. For reasons yet unknown this zone is supporting a small community of algea-type organisms on the borehole wall. Water level in the well on this date is 182 feet below ground surface. All water is moving down the well to a pair of of microconduits at 478 feet that are taking much of the water from the well. http://www.deq.virginia.gov/gwcharacterization/homepage.html
