The gray ghost of Sagamore runs away impressively from the field. Before the race, a group of fans got past the guards and pulled hairs from his mane and tail as souvenirs. It was the first time a horse was almost trampled to death by humans, but Native Dancer recovered from the incident, easily winning the Travers by five and a half lengths. Sorry, no track call was available.

  • I own one of his great, great, great grand daughters.

  • @GBeret83 Yes indeed agree with you. Dont forget all his offspring decendents that came back over to the UK so arguably Europe aswell. Just look at the pedigrees of some of the great race horses over here in the uk, Sadlers Wells, Kings Theatre etc all trace back to the legendary Native Dancer. Even horses in Newzealand and Australia, Japan have many top horses that can be traced back to the Grey Ghost himself. It amazing what that horse has achieved even to this day he lives on!!!

  • A stunning stretch drive. thanks for posting.

  • @GBeret83

And to think that the one loss cost him the Triple Crown by a nose. Have you read the book?

  • What this horse accomplished on the race track, 22-21-1-0, and in the breeding shed, may , with these two things taken collectively, make him the most significant racehorse in American thoroughbred history.

  • Native Dancer, a LEGEND!!!

  • thank you..I'm doing research for a essay about Eight Belles lineage...loved watching one of her ancestors race! :)

  • Interesting. Thanks for pointing that out.

  • Thanks for another video of Native Dancer! They are so hard to find but much enjoyed and appreciated by this fan!!
