American singer, songwriter, and jazz pianist. the first black musician to ever have a weekly radio and television show.
The first episode of the Nat King Cole Show was aired 5 November 1956 and the last December 17, 1957. Cole had survived for over a year, and it was he, not NBC, who ultimately decided to pull the plug on the show. NBC and Nat had been operating at an extreme financial loss due to the lack of sponsorship his show received.
Cole said shortly after its demise, "Madison Avenue is afraid of the dark."

More songs by Cole in Spanish and The King Cole Trio will be posted on this channel.
Between 1946 and 1950, the King Cole Trio recorded nearly 75 titles for Capitol's transcription service, songs that were then serviced to radio stations for airplay.

Nat Cole was never prejudiced against by showbiz people but only ordinary white folks who took exceptions through jealousy to Nat's great singing talents. Cole once toured with a British band led Mr Goodman, and as Nat sat at the piano on stage, a guy in the audiance jumped on to the stage pushed Nat off his seat on to the floor. That was the kind of behaviour poor Nat had to endure back then in the fifties. That was America for you !!

Great posting...it's a shame that only 25 episodes of the Nat King Cole Show exist, or so that's what they say! Apparently his wife, Maria recorded these from their own television set with a very early video recorder....Thak goodness because the TV company scrubbed all the shows!

The Lennon Sisters, who later became Ku Klux Klan members, actually sang, danced and appeared on the Nat King Cole Show a few times in 1957. Nat King Cole was extremely Anti-Communist and he wanted membership in the US Communist Party to be a crime punishable by death!!
