Phil shows how he used my favorite drum machine, the Roland CR-78, on the track "Hand In Hand" from his 1981 Face Value album.

  • How the hell does he do that so naturally? Just bounces off the first hit?

  • @STVYT It is a quick brush of stick against the skin, a very subtle movement. Called a ghost note or grace note. Not hard to do, but hard to do artfully....phil is known for an extraordinary and very individual "feel", not just the basic patterns and techniques.

  • How am I hearing the snare drum when he isn't even playing it? 0:17 If you notice you hear that CHECHECHEboomboom CHE CHE before he even hits the snare drum. Is there a snare drum pedal?

  • wow....phil usuing a double headed kit! :O

  • @mgzt190plus i can do that. all you do is loosen your hand,

  • man his set up is cool, nice kit too

  • @thelopeisback He stopped using Gretsch awhile back... used DW for the last Genesis tour. I miss the Gretschies.

  • is that a DW kit? i thought phil played gretsch...

  • He really makes it look easy till you go and try to it lol

  • Great vintage machine used in many a Genesis record. So nice to hear Phil playing a non gated kit for a change.

  • @jockamofeena
