Michel Foucault describes the culture of understanding and regulating the Human which he attributes to Socrates and the Stoics. Foucault contrasts these Ancient Greco-Roman cultures to contemporary cultures of understanding and regulating the Human.
Audio is from Foucault's U.C Berkeley lectures http://tinyurl.com/752ffvd

  • Why does this video have ridiculous annoying pan-pipes music over it, it makes it impossible to listen Foucault.

  • this is a good analyticlal summary which combines Foucault's Berkeley lecture and the discussion session that followed.

Thank you, but now we should expect more.

  • A weird, cannibalised video. What's with the gaudy and over-simplified text laid over the video? Does the poster think he needs to help Foucault help him express himself? And the faux-transcendental music? Foucault's work is profound if put into practice. It is a great dishonour to mangle his position like this. Let the man speak ffs.

  • @nightmarez87 dats dumb u shud care for others and try looking for a just society

  • It's not a translation. It appears to be dubbed because the video footage was taken from a short speech Foucault made, in French, on Gaston Bachelard (which you can see on youtube). The audio is original. There seem to be, strangely, more clips on youtube of Foucault speaking in his somewhat shaky English than in French.

  • What a brilliant idea of self v. State could be argued with Foucault as a backdrop. A lot of what Foucault alludes to in this video is very Nietzschean.

  • ups!! LOL well gracias thanks anyhow! for posted
