@rtodahl01 The first thing you need is a generator with a quality out put. You will also need to go into the advanced settings on your mate and make the input cycles range more broad to accept your generator. If you run your generator durng the day you need to make shure your AC loads are much higher than your PV or wind out put because of grid tie function. I did a video with mine on the generator.

@rtodahl01 I did a bunch of research on this and found I was able to get the outback to recognise the generator and switch over and start charging. I have recently done a video on this. I do understand your frustrations.

Could you tell me how it was getting code inforcement to pass your system? And what did it cost for the fees? Also what did they look for at the inspection?

we spent a lot of money on our outback system.
then spent more on the "upgrade" to grid tie.
When we got them back and installed we could not use our generator to charge our batteries.
This was of the most importance and told them when we were getting the upgrades.
anyway their attitude was you can pay us to switch them back, bummer.
I was pissed then and am still mad.
Nice customer service there. I would go without power before I gave them another penny.

The Xantrex XW and the OutBack Flexware500 (like yours) seem to be the best 'hubs' for a Private Electric Grid, for those of us who haven't decided to push the button.
The fees for our town were the same as for any other project. The fee was based on a percentage of the cost of the project. I think that discourages people from installing a solar energy system. Some towns, I believe Boca Raton, charges a low flat fee for any projects that are for renewable or sustainable energy projects.

I had an experienced installer, VB Engineering, in Boca Raton, do the design and installation. The code inspector in our town had never seen a solar generating system so he called in the top county electrical inspector. He passed it with no problems but it seemed to take forever to get through the process. I can't tell you what they looked for but he had his big electrical code book with him and was nothing but impressed with the installation.
