Worcester Mass Tornado of 1953 Part 1

This is damage caused by the Great Worcester Mass. Tornado of June 9th 1953. This EF-4 Tornado was 1000 yards wide, traveled 46-miles, killed about 94 people, injured 1,288 and caused around 52-million dollars in damage. Around 4000 buildings were either damaged or destroyed and several hundred automobiles were tossed about like toys. "Lord Have Mercy"

Thank God Worcester didnt get the tornado on 6-1-11 .... but springfield, sturbridge/southbridge. man, 4 count so far. God bless their families.

I have read about this tornado before, first time I had seen some footage on the tornado. If this were to happen today, I know a lot of people would think that it would be because of climate change. Mass is probably getting overdue for another big tornado.

@Torn80cj well it did get hit by an F4 in '89, so i guess it is overdue. i think my state of Connecticut is overdue, too. We have had a history of violent tornadoes, including the Windsor Locks tornado in '79, which is the sixth costliest tornado in history. when you look at it, we have been teased since then. The EF3 on June 1 only missed us by 4 miles, and the Worcester tornado would have hit had not a cold air mass happening that day merge with the system that spawned the Flint-Beecher event

@AJTwister97 I guess it could, especially since it did do EF3 damage. New York is another state that is over due for an EF4 or an EF5 tornado.

@bacon01603 In 1953 they had one black family , but thats when the tornado happened and the majority of the white folks were forced out. Most never returned
