At 6:00am on February 27, 2010 the State of Hawaii sounded Civil Defense sirens across the island of Oahu in preparation for a tsunami resulting from an 8.8 magnitude earthquake originating in Chile. At this time, we did not know the potential effects of the tsunami and you can hear us discussing what to do in the background as the sirens sound.
Edit: This was one of the most chilling sounds I've ever heard in my life.
Edit2: These sirens were sounded at the 3, 2, 1, and half hour mark of the tsunami. Throughout the morning, supermarkets were saturated with people trying to buy emergency supplies.
The result of the incident was minor tsunami waves under one foot felt throughout the archipelago; so for those of you planning your next vacation to Hawai'i, there's nothing to fear - Waikiki is still here!

I live in Ohio, thoes are the sirens we hear when there is a tornado warning, except they go on and on for a long while. Isn't that such a terrifying sound. I swear all summer long that is the sound that makes you crap your pants! Be safe!
