@paisleyyama I work in Juvie and I see these types of kids all the time. They just lash out because they feel hopeless. These kids have self-esteem issues IMO and actually don't mind being locked up for the most part. They usually act out that way for attention. We tend to ignore them when they do that and it works better than giving them the attention they want in the form of spraying or restraints. We do restrain them if they are suicidal or start causing a threat to others.

@paisleyyama I agree totally with you and that's exactly what I want for them also! I think the kid and society should both benefit!

@GayUOPXBoy10 I think you are right but if kids are violent or involved in gangs what does society do? Incarceration is not good for the kids, but incarcerating the kids may be good for society. I wish instead of incarceration there would be more rehab. types of facilities/programs for kids especially kids that show promise like this boy. That way society would be kept safe and the kids would get help.

@paisleyyama I know it will take a very long time and will be very involved... I just think that further incarceration is not best for most kids!

@GayUOPXBoy10 I`m not sure keeping him busy will be enough for when he gets out. This kid is really messed up. When he gets out, who will keep him busy? Does the kid know what triggers his violence against himself? He needs someone to help point it out & show him how to deal w/his emotions rather than destroying things & hurting himself when he is triggered. I think this boy has a lot of hope for becoming good but he needs help to untangle the mental mess he is in. It`s a sad case.

@GayUOPXBoy10 Call me skeptical but I`m not sure these measures were taken w/him for rehabilitative motives. I tend to feel they were taken b/c he was destroying so much prison property & spraying him, slamming him in concrete, & putting him in solitary didn`t stop him so they were forced to be creative. If it had been about rehab, wouldn`t they have sought ways before this? Is spraying & slamming a kid the 1st method of rehab? And is just keeping him busy truly rehab? It is a step but that`s it

@paisleyyama Yes... he just needs some wrongs righted! I think he does have a better future ahead of him! I am glad that this place exists because juveniles should be rehabilitated instead of made to feel like prisonsers!

@GayUO I agree w/all you wrote. In his case, he is so young that it seems like almost a crime not to invest in intensive therapy for him. I`m not talking about drugging him up, but various forms of therapy-family therapy, psychological therapy, a spiritual minister to disciple him If he wants that, a tutor or vocational training to give him goals beyond being a janitor, motivational training, social skills training, anger management training. He doesn`t seem like a bad kid, just messed up.

it is sad to see the GOV do MORE against a child for acting at, then they do for some of these PEDO adults in our society.

@paisleyyama Yes... it is a very sad case! I don't know if prison is the appropriate place for kids like him! It is a shame because he probably had a horrible time growing up and was always labeled as "bad!" I think many of these kids have psychological problems and the lack of support makes matters worse and then because society did him wrong and he has done some wrong, they throw him in prison and what a sad and vicious circle it turns into be!
