I lost interest in gymnastics just as Mostepanova was becoming known, and only now, watching her, do I see what I missed! She really was excellent. Thanks for this great montage. I like the music!

I seriously doubt Retton would have been anywhere near the top 10 after compulsories. The Soviets, Romanians, East Germans, Czechs, Hungarians would have been well ahead of her after compulsories-and most of the Americans imo. Retton would have made the AA because of the 3 per country rule-but the best she could have hoped for imo was a top 10 finish. No way Mostepanova, Yurchenko, a healthy Agache, etc. would have ALL suffered a meltdown.

No one knows what would've happened. Mary Lou might have won even with the Soviets competing. I'm just saying that the competition would have been completely different if Mostepanova, Bicherova and Yurchenko were there too.

The Soviets would have probably swept the AA, so MLR might not have even medalled! (Olga scored a perfect score of 40.00 to win the AA in Olomouc).

I have the same problem with videos of Shaposhnikova. There must be more footage out there somewhere in cyberland!! By the way after watching this montage I am now a Mostepanova fan---I did not realize how fabulous she really was until I saw this. I take it she is the girl that would have beat Mary Lou in 84' had the Russians been at the Games? It has always been said Mary Lou won because the Russians were not there--after seeing this they may be right!

Mostepanova won have definatly have beaten Retton, in fact most of the soviets would have done.
