Tofael Ahmed - With a small sized Quran Sharif in his hand Ziaur Rahman said, "Bangabandhu, I swear I will never betray you in my life". One month later Bangabandhu was killed.

Ziaur Rahman never claimed that he has declared the independence. In his own article, published in the Bichitra, he wrote, "7th March speech was green signal to us".

Those who claim credit for themselves, including Shahjahan Siraj and Abdu Rab, are not eligible to do so. That eligibility belonged to only one person in Bangladesh and that was Bangabandhu.

When we were engaged in Non-cooperation movement in 1969, M. K. Anwar was the DC of Dhaka. He issued section 144 against us. Police then used teargas and nightstick against us.

M. K. Anwar was among those 303 officers who were dismissed on corruption charges by Yahya Khan. Then he left for Pakistan and joined there as an officer of the Pakistan Industrial Credit and Investment Corporation. After independence he returned to Bangladesh as a repatriate. As the general manager of BICIC, formerly known as PICIC, he came to me to meet Bangabandhu. I took him to Bangabandhu. He touched Bangabandhu's feet (as salam) and cried to him. Bangabandhu was a kind man. He appointed him as the chairman of Bangladesh Textile Mill Corporation. One should have gratitude.

Now he says that we did not fight for the liberation. Who did then? Did he do by staying in Pakistan? We arranged training for thousands of guys of MUJIB BAHINI and gave them arms.

It was I who brought him to Sheikh Hasina in 1991 for nomination. M. K. Anwar cried to her remembering Bangabandhu
