To my fellow HDA members: I am a current member and past board member of the HDA and also a current member of SOTO--USA. I believe, from personal experience as both a patient and practitioner, that holistic dentists and their patients can benefit greatly by co-treating cases directly with SOT chiropractors. Patients receiving co-treatment respond faster and adjust more smoothly to changes made to the cranial and spinal balancing factors of the dental occlusion and vice versa. This point has special validity for those treating TMD/orthodontic problems or performing large restorative cases. I have attended the SOTO-USA annual symposium for several years now and have integrated the co-treatment model into my practice, which has allowed me to achieve astounding results for my patients. Word travels quickly among patients and I have seen the professional and economic benefits that co-treatment is capable of delivering. Post-treatment continued self-stability of the case is one of the most important benefits from co-treatment of cases with SOT chiropractors. As I'm sure our members realize, to call oneself truly a holistic dentist one must address not only the biocompatability of materials used. A truly holistic practitioner addresses the anatomical structure, the neurology, and the physiology of each individual patient and works accordingly to find not only a resolution of symptoms, but adopts and utilizes a healing protocol that will return each patient to their physiological adaptive range (PARR, Gerald Smith, DDS, DNM) and overall health. To this end, I invite all members of the HDA to attend the upcoming meeting of SOTO-USA, which will be held in Nashville, TN in May 2011. The symposium information is attached (www.soto-usa.com) and the the Dental-Chiropractic Treatment Model is being led again by Richard Gerardo, DC. A review of the planned curriculum will show the huge significance to the performance of true holistic dentistry.
