This is our prairie style kitchen from start to finish. All cabinetry was made in the shop at home.

  • Good job man, and great god damn music! Are you a cabinet maker by trade or just a really great amateur woodworker. I've been installing and doing custom work for a custom cabinet company for 5 years (23 years old), and this is great workmanship. What kind of drawer slides did you use, what were the boxes made of, and what kind of crown was that... as you can tell I'm a curious and meticulous fellow.

  • Just a committed amatuer here. All drawer slides are 100 lb full extension slides. The drawer boxes are made of 1/2 baltic birch. Cabinet boxes are 3/4 birch or walnut ply. The crown is walnut with maple dentil moulding applied ot it. It makes a nice contrast.

  • The contrast is great in your kitchen, I'm assuming those are maple doors and drawers on top of the walnut face frame? Good call on all the aspects, 3/4 boxes and 1/2 birch ( great drawer material). One last question, where the slides side mount or under mount, and where the drawers dovetail or just a box?

  • Yes, I like the contrast, it highlights the woods. Walnut face frames, doors are hard maple rails and stiles with soft maple panels. You cannot see the detail but the panels are all bookmatched showing grain and imperfections. Drawer slides are side mounted to dovetailed sides.

  • Fantastic! How long did it take?

We remodeled our kitchen over the summer. I wish I had your skills! Love your crown molding!

  • The whole project to the end details took 6 months. But the goal was to get a "functional" kitchen soon. That means a sink, frig, stove and base cabinets with any countertop (plywood). That stage only took 2 1/2 weeks. Base cabinets were made and waiting before we gutted the old.
