Without a stationary observatory many amateur astronomers and astro photographs need to move their equipment out of the light-polluted cities to the countrysides under darker skies.
This short video shows a typical setup of my equipment (a 10-inch Ritchey-Chretién RC10C from Deep Sky Instruments with a BORG 77ED guide scope on top of a Takahashi EM-400 mount) at my usual location in the German Odenwald near Heidelberg.
To keep the telescope and the mount steady it must be protected from the strong winds with a tarp.

  • Very inspiring - Great video - Great equipment. Great idea with the wind/light breaker. Was that Astronomy specific or improvised. I'll watch this one over many times. Well done!

  • @mercsport 1 year later, if you have use for it us poor folk would like to use it :-) lol :P

  • Wonderful video. Always nice to see a scope being setup!

  • what a bummer

  • Terrific video! You captured the nature of our hobby very, very well. Beautiful.

    And I really admire your EM400 :)

  • Thanks so much! That was so useful and nice. I wish you starry skies.

  • It's tough !

A good vid' though which illustrates perfectly many a wasted night of hope rather than expectation . I gave up an age ago but still have all the expensive gear for no very good reason that I can think of .

Good luck the next time though .
