In this interview, Daniel Cane provides us with the exciting story of how he and follow classmates at Cornell University founded Blackboard.com. Furthermore, Dan shares part of his personal journey to success, and some of his business principals that helped to make him so successful.
Dan Cane is a successful serial entrepreneur. He was a Co-Founder, SVP of Research & Development, and past Board Member of Blackboard (NASDAQ: BBBB). Since its founding, Blackboard has grown to $300 million in annual revenues, over 1,000 employees and a $1 billion market cap. Dan was instrumental in growing the company through five private rounds of financing, raising over $100 million dollars in venture capital and helping take the company public in 2004. Dan was an inventor of the first enterprise eLearning system, the core of Blackboard's flagship products, and was one of the key leaders behind many of the cornerstone patents held at Blackboard. He developed Blackboard Learning System and Blackboard Content System Technology used by over 3,400 institutions and 15 million students.
After leaving Blackboard in 2007 he founded Kadoo, a website that manages the content of diverse personal publishing websites like Facebook and MySpace. Until this year, he was Kadoo's Chief Technical Officer. Kadoo was sold to 3Sixty Enterprises, LLC in 2009.
Today Daniel is President and CEO of Modernizing Medicine which is revolutionizing the way that doctors and their patients interact through technology.
Dan holds a B.S. in applied economics and management from Cornell University, where, as a student, he co-founded Blackboard.
