Be sure to check out more tutorials at http://www.wyattjohnson.ca/

This is a tutorial on how to connect your time capsule to the internet and to access the wifi drive over the internet. Note: You will NOT be able to test the results of this tutorial from within the network, try accessing it from outside your network. This is more designed for macbook users who take their computer outside the network.

Apple script:

tell application "Finder"
try
mount volume "afp://ipaddress" as user name "UserName" with password "Password"
end try
end tell

  • at 2:23 there is no option of "SHARE DISKS OVER WAN" what should i do? please help me!

  • @oOAndrewsOo Update your firmware.

  • couple questions:

1 - will this work on a external HD connected to an airport extreme?

2 - will you be able to access the drive without it(the airport or time capsule) connected to a computer?

3 - will you be able to access your drive from a PC?

  • @flaminyon

    1) Yes, as seen in the "File Sharing" tab of the AirPort Utility, you can see that it says "... sharing access for your AirPort disks", which include connected volumes to the airport extreme.

    2) If what you are asking is what I think it is, you should either look at purchasing a router like the time capsule / airport extreme, or look into secure sharing software on a dedicated server (Like OpenVPN)

    3) And No. The PC does not natively support afp volumes.

  • Wan is not an option for me to check under file sharing because the time capsule is in bridge mode. Any advice how to mount the hdd via the internet leaving the time capsule in bridge mode?

  • @Ajeetje83

Not through the airport config pane, you need to set up your network in "share a public..."

  • My script now comes up with an error saying, "The server “[number]” may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again."

Would you have any idea why that is and how to fix it? The script was working before but now that I'm overseas, I would have no way of checking what's going on there. :( @wyattjob
