pipsqueak is a little person,
time goes by and it just gets worse.
cutie is so beautifully blessed,
it breaks my heart when she puts on her dress,
unlocks the door, and does as she's rehearsed.
but i don't take no fault.
i don't pay no mind to it at all.
i don't spend no time gettin' all upset.
pipsqueak likes to be the victim,
time goes by and it still don't end.
cutie is remarkably nice,
she wanders in and turns out the lights.
she never lingers but she takes the time to say,
i don't take no fault.
i don't pay no mind to it at all.
i don't spend no time gettin' all upset.
it used to be the light was never on.
something happened, it's always day.
who would figure it would all work out like that.
pipsqueak lies in consternation,
time goes by and he's still awake.
cutie is completely at ease,
she stays a while but she's just like louise,
gets in her car and sings her line to me.
i don't take no fault.
i don't pay no mind to it all.
i don't spend no time gettin' all upset.
wait to see what lies beneath the sun.
what's the difference, it's all the same.
who would figure it would all work out like that.
My dear friend, each song of yours is like a universe, both musically and lyrically...
What a singular relationship we're told, here, between Pipsqueak and Cutie... one like many others, maybe, in which one of the characters plays the quiet victim, patiently waiting for the other's return (a person with a very free spirit, maybe too free for to be able to stay for a while).
The comparison between the light always on and the sun... is genius!
Man, you're a first-class artist!

@danbergam thanks for the nice comment, Dan. this song started as a joke based on the townes van zandt song 'pancho and lefty'. a lot of times when i have lower expectations the song come out better. anyway, it turned into a commentary on the nature of love. for some people love is a fleeting feeling easily replaced, for others it's a life long commitment that is expressed in actions- even if the loved one has no idea. the light/sun analogy refers to The Book of Ecclesiastes- my fav in the bible

@efbeckley
See?! It exactly is how I've just commented in another one of your songs: so many possible lectures of the same words!!!
About the right interpretation you're giving me... well, I guess "Pipsqueak" could be my second name...
- Things you don't know of me... - *sings*
P.S.
Can't wait to listen to your cover of that!!!
