I think that he still gets screenwriting credit on this although Hopper did a heavy rewrite.
The movie was recently reissued, maybe I shouldn't say recently but within the last 5 years, with a pretty indepth commentary by Hopper.

@thezenarcadian Not a hint of trolling about it. Trance is mainstream here in Europe and it makes me sick that real musicians get shut out of the exposure they deserve so some pillhead can make millions from sitting in front of his computer.

i hate the attitude that something sucks because its popular, i like trance music, and i get so much shit from metalheads and such about how my music sucks because its made with the help of computers or whatever, or just cos its not all necessarily anti establishment or whatever.

Sure it's a dumb attitude but the movie's about a screwed up young teenager from small-town Canada who's obsessed with Elvis and an imaginary vision of punk rock, "Disco sucks, kill all hippies" was a great rock & roll slogan for 1979.
