The Last Farewell, a big hit in 1979. I had the fortune to meet Mr. Whittaker and his
agent Mr. White at a restaurant in Denver back in the 1980s when he was doing a
concert at the Paramount. He sure sounded totally different than the way he sings.
He has a very strong 'Canadian' accent, whatever that may be. Anyway, I love his
music - and his whistling - and this is my favorite piece he does.

  • 1979? I remember this as a hit in the summer of '75.

  • @wannawatchu66 I checked wikipedia, and while it's apparently true that he recorded the song in 75; I bought the album in 79 when it had become very

popular. I suspect that it took a while before he got enough airplay that the

song became a hit. What's sad though, is the album version that I bought doesn't

appear to be available any longer. The versions that I hear now, including this one

just aren't the same as they were on the album.

  • Love the version of this song. I have a couple of his albums; must dig them out.

  • This was Whittaker's one and only Top 40 hit in the USA. It peaked at #19 in June of 1975.

  • Btw. Elvis sang this song too!!

  • Thanx for uploading this great vid!! Just listened to an interview with him, I think he has an not-too-over-the-top "British" accent, close to "neutral" (whatever that means...) Canadian would basically be a kind of Am.E.

  • Opus sang this song in the bathtub. Change the description to 1975 so everyone's not saying you're mistaken?

  • I sure like the picture....

  • Not bad for an old Afrikan !

  • this song was HUGE IN 1975

  • So nice to hear this wonderful song again. Thanks for the posting.

  • His voice is so rich and manly. The British Bob Goulet. What a wonderful sea love song....lovingly orchestrated.....really brings a picture...love the atmospheric horns at the beginning at the end....plus that Columbia 'echo' sound--lovely.
