This video shows how one can shoot baseball from behind a chain link fence. One important note I failed to mention in the video is it is important to shoot with the lens wide open or close to it. That means f2.8 or maybe f4, but not something like f8 (who shots sports action at f8 anyway!).

  • Can the same results be expected with a lens that has an aperture F5-6.3 (Sigma 150-500mm F5-6.3 APO DG OS HSM)

  • @igotmyphotos - I know it might be inexpensive, but I wouldn't recommend that specific lens for sports photography. It's just too slow to be useful for much of anything other than broad daylight.

  • I want to shoot at softball games. Im going to be doing lots of games at night so i was wondering if you thought that a canon 70-200 2.8 is ii was a good enough lens for that. Thanks in advance

  • @niccomaker - I use that lens for a lot of sports; it will certainly be good enough. Just remember, you'll still have to shoot at very high ISOs under the lights to get decent shutter speeds needed to stop action (1/400 or higher).

  • how did you get the fence outta the picture??

  • @paul3fun - not sure I'm following your question. That's what I tried to show in the video. By shooting close and/or with a large aperture, the fence typically won't show up. It's not possible with wide angle lenses or slow glass.

  • @thedailyvibe I'm looking for expert advise before I break my wallet, LOL. Ive used a SIGMA 70-200 F2.8 and have blurred out the fence. I can't seem to find example photos through a fence with the SIGMA 150mm-500mm F5-6.3.

  • @igotmyphotos - Not sure how well that would work, but I guess you could try.

  • @paul3fun I think he might have put the lens through the fence kinda (Goes right up to the fence!)

  • Thanks!
