This is definitely NOT his best. This is 70s good Salil C. His best was in 40s & 50s and changed Bangla music forever, considerably reducing Tagore's musical (not lyrical) influence.
This song is special for its lyrics. Rarely seen such good and perfect lyrics in hindi.

I know this is just a matter of opinion, but this song is great, probably his best...especially the brass, so few music directors knew how to use the sax/clarinet and it's great in this song. Just close your eyes and pay attention to the opening. Again it is just a matter of opinion :)

Very good indeed but definitely not his best.
His best, from the 1940s were unconventional, exceptional in musical quality, highly political and was truly inspirational. They ended up changing Bangla music from Tagore days.
