Astronomers studying the compact galaxy group Stephan's Quintet have seen creative destruction in the many collisions taking place among its galaxies. This Hubble Minute discusses what astronomers are learning and hope to learn from examining the quintet.

Light pollution ruins images. I took a picture of Stephan's Quintet a couple nights ago and I just can't get rid of the light pollution effects while keeping the galaxies.

Seeing Stephen's Quintet in a 24-30" visually, and from a dark location is an unbelievable site! I have been able to see it in my 8" from Great Basin National Park, as well. It is nothing to write home about, but it is detectable. In a 12" it really comes to life from Great Basin; but, with it's 7.5 magnitude skies, Great Basin National Park offers some rare opportunities to the amateur astronomy with an 8-16" scope. Some people come there with big Dobs. Now, I have drool running down my chin!
