Bassim - عشاق الحسين (Ashaqal Hussain)

Mulla Bassim al-Karbalaei recites a eulogy for Imam Hussain (a.s.) and his tragedies over 1300 years since Imam Hussain's death and oppressions. Imam Hussain is the grandson of the Holy Prophet Mohammed (s.a.w.).

على الرغم من أن الامام الحسين توفي منذ ما يقارب 1300 عام , إلا أن شهادته وكفاحه ومحنته هي مصدر الهام الملايين في جميع انحاء العالم اليوم. الملايين تبكي وتحزن عليه كما لو أنه توفي بالامس. قصيدة الرثاء هذه هي استذكار لآل محمد وكفاحهم واضطهادهم. ضرب الصدر ليس فقط تعبيرا ثقافيا عن الحزن ولكنه في الأساس يعبر عن مشاركة آل محمد في مأساتهم ويخلق جوا من الحزن. كما يظهر أن حبهم هام ونقي ويثيب الله تعالى عليه

Despite that Imam Hussain died over 1300 years ago, his martyrdom, struggle and tribulation is an inspiration to millions around the world today. Millions mourn and cry for him, as if he died yesterday.

This eulogy is a remembarance of the family of Mohammed and their struggles and oppression. The chest beating is just a cultural way of mourning and grieving, but its foundation represents joining the family of Mohammed in their tragedy and creates a sense of mourning, also showing that love for them is important, pure, and rewardable by Allah (s.w.t.).

During the time of Imam Hussain (as), the Islamic state was being ruled by an unjust leader: Yazid. Yazid openly went against Islamic teachings, such as drinking and gambling. Yazid has ordered Imam Hussain to give him his allegiance, but the Imam refused.

Imam Hussain, his family who are the family of the Holy Prophet Mohammed, and his companions were all put under siege in the deserts of Karbala, Iraq. After a ten-day siege in which for a number of days they were refused water, the men were all martyred in a battle on the tenth day. Among the deaths included infants as young as six-months old.

After the bodies littered the sand of Karbala, the opposing army of Yazid attacked the camp of women and children. They ravaged the camp, slaughtered some children and the viels of the women were taken. The women and children along with the sole male survivor, Imam Sajjad (as), were taken in chains across the desert sand.

The chest beating is just culture, but the foundation of it is a great thawwab. It creates a sense of joining AhlulBayt in their tragedies and a sense of mourning also. Its not haraam it does not harm at all.

I don't know how you feel but when I hear the maqtal I could not stop but hit myself on the head, trying to get closer to my imam and the pain he felt........

I mean it is normal to see a mother hit herself in the face when a tragedy befalls her, yet when the greatest of tragedies occurs people seem to be reluctant and cautious....
