This is our new octopus, ?. That's right, two weeks later and we still haven't decided a name for him. Actually, we're not even sure if it is a he, because we're not entirely sure what to look for, but we'll stick with that for continuity's sake. He's finally starting to come out of his proverbial shell and interacting with us. It's to the point now where when we walk up to the tank or make a sudden move that he doesn't even flash his startle colors!
He was in really bad shape when we bought him from the local fish store, as you can seen in the video he only has six and a half legs. As I've read on the internet, weekly water changes seem to be the key to success, we do a 1/3 change every Saturday. He has gotten a lot more vigorous since we brought him home, and we're thrilled to say that both his missing leg and the half missing leg have both started to grow back! We're hoping and expecting to have a (relatively anyway) long and successful relationship with our new octopus!

We eventually named him Boo. Actually, our friend's son named him because he liked to play peek-a-boo with his tentacles! He was so cool. He passed away about a year later. :(

How big/small was he/she/it?

He was an Abdopus aculeatus. His mantle was about two inches long and his longest arm was about 15 inches. He was a mature individual when we acquired him so unfortunately he only lived for two months, but for a creature with a natural life span of eight months, that's not too bad. :)

How do you keep it from escaping?

Very tight lid on the tank. Unfortunately, he passed away last week. :(
