A few months at least. If they aren't attacked they should expose themselves by then. (this part is unproven) Having other active (but not predatory) fish around may help them see it's safe to come out.

lol when i had an aquarium i bought 4 of these african filter feeding for 20 euros only, they were very shy :c but they definately clean my water veryl well ^^

No and Yes. They're awesome critters, no doubt. However they like to play hide-and-seek: mine disappeared for 3 years, I thought it was dead. Just a few months ago it reappeared, healthy and completely normal. They're strange shrimp
