i did similar things like u did, i know that fan is running 12v of voltage, but the motherboard was controlled those white and yellow cables and thats why given the fan lower voltage in 3-5v which is slower , also i found if you put whtie and yellow cable connect together and the fan will go slower as well , so i put the switch at the side of the case. Now i never worry about overheating, of couse i tested too, before mod - cpu & gpu was over 60c, now if i switch my tubro fan i got lower 25c
