Soft-pedal the imitation and aim for emulation. As for presentation, lose the steel strings in favour of nylon and see if you can find a collaborator with an upright bass. Fine song, you're very good at this and it's nice to see that Jake is remembered. :)

i love your cover of this song -- the words are always hard for me to get since i'm american, so you've sung them appropriately.....don't listen to peoples criticisms of your guitar: it's excellent and it rocks -- your timing is impeccable and you tuned/played it well -- jakes sounds more complicated because of having a bass there, but yours' just as good.......i have an aquaintance i call 'the bull' so i'm endeared to this song.......the freakfolkers don't know what they're missing.

on some of your other posts it looks like your miming,i can see now you are not,because you didnt practice! you have the voice.can you not get a jazz guitarist and a bass player? you would make thackrey fans v.happy!!! its better than that LABOUR-thackrey festival. that was rubbish,get on tour !!!!!
