This was filmed in Atlanta, Georgia on April 1, 1988. I included the banter because it is one of the things that makes this concert so special and so fun to watch.

The instrumental following the song is called "Donna's Waltz" and is on Phil Cunningham's CD "The Palomino Waltz."

Thanks for this, I'm glad you included the jokes and stories. I saw this on Austin City Limits years ago and have been a fan ever since. One thing I remember that cracked me up was when they did this long explanation of the medley they were about to play and how there was a traditional Scottish song that people would recognize because the Beatles had stolen it for a song and that people should listen for it, in the middle of the medley they broke into a cover of "Do You Want to Know a Secret"

If you do a YouTube search for "Scottish Tradition: Phil Johnny Cunningham 2" by user UISTMAN59, you will see essentially the same thing, unfortunately without the lead-in that made it so funny (sadly, the clip is also out of synch). If you do a search for "Aly Bain and friends Cunningham", you will find the full-length show that UISTMAN59's clip is from. Johnny and Phil perform together twice in the show - also with Richard Thompson - great stuff. :)

This video and your other clip from Atlanta really brought back the memories. I saw them at the International House in Philly - perhaps it was the same tour. I remember being overwhelmed with the virtuosity of Phil and Johnny Cunningham. Thank you.

Is there any debate that silly wizard is simply the best celtic band of all time - outrageous musical ability (RIP Johnny), awesome vocals, pee yourself humor... Altan has great musical ability but not the complete package these lads had. oh for a time machine to go and be at this concert...thanks so much for posting!!!!
