yo man i got this same setup, ive only had it for 2 days, i have the gain at 3/4 and the bass boost and a little over half and im losing hearing in my right ear lol. this system kicks ass

he used high level inputs with the speaker wires i bet, but why all that bass if you cant hear the music?? bass is the last thing I go for when building a stereo, bass is annoying if you dont have mids n highs..
