  • I like the bird -- it sounds like a little diaphone. It's also louder than the siren and probably more reliable.

  • When an actual alert goes out, the words EMERGENCY, EMERGENCY, EMERGENCY are yelled at the beginning, with THIS IS NOT A TEST, THIS IS NOT A TEST, Spaced throughout it.

  • i heard one today, and they told everyone that it was a test over the speaker before they sounded it.

  • Because its fuckin new york. What other insane things have you seen us ignore?

  • Ha ha there was one today :/(10:30 a.m.).

  • Those are The Old PN20s.the ATIs got up in 2008

  • Its a more "efficient" ATI siren, and supposedly better than the old school sirens, right? And they test it twice a month (at least that's what I'm gathering)? Wow.

Nine Mile Point in Oswego has a mere 37 sirens, and the majority of them are Thunderbolts. The same Thunderbolts that were decommissioned for too many parts to replace, yet are only tested 4 times a year, they never fail, and they GRAB your attention.

Sounds like the new product isn't always the best, huh?

  • The reason they are not reliable, and need to be tested frequently, and why nobody reacts to the un-threatening sound of the sirens is because of the sirens themselves. The company, ATI, has a TERRIBLE track record of a wide range of failures of their warning sirens. Whoever is in charge of the warning system needs to pull their head out of their ass and install reliable sirens with a tone that can not be interpreted as anything but imminent danger, such as the ASC T-128. Look it up on youtube.

  • This is why you should NEVER use electronic sirens near nuclear plants.

  • Keep it running or shut it down ...

Either way I think we can all agree that Indian Point needs to be guarded 24/7.

I did 2 "tours" at Indian Point (with the NYARNG) and it did not take me long to figure out how I would attack and cause mass chaos at I.P.

I am glad I live way up river from I.P.

  • they need to shut this place down, i live in the totally obliterated area if this thing melts down (beacon)
