HERE IN THIS HOME

I have become this—
A graying balding piece of bird.
Refrigerated
in a nurising home.
They have taken me,
and I have become like them:
Useless.
Lazy. Couchlike in my laziness.

Men my age in Japan
pick tea leaves, and make their own tea
for their own enjoyment.
I am encouraged
to sit and to rot, and to play poker
with the other turkeys,

(Samuel Douglas Kendall)

  • thanks for promoting another poet to try out :)

  • Excellent piece David, superbly delivered as always.

Paints a sad, but all to often true picture of what getting old has to offer.

  • WOW This is great love it

  • The delivery of this sells the piece, David.

    Nicely done, as usual. Bravo!!

  • interesting body language - poetry in itself - 5 from me xxxx

  • I am in love with your enthusiasm, not a lot of people have that trait...

  • Strong stuff, deftly conveyed. Impact poetry that deserves an audience.

  • Is that a new haircut? no.. a new suit? I have no idea...

    Awesome poem anyways!

  • Great poem. I can really relate. Love your background but feel your two friends could use some food right now. (Anorexic looking two!) Shall check Samuel Doglas Kendall's site. Thanks.

  • Kendall...a brilliant poet. Thanks for linking me up. Talented ... truly. Thanks for your incredibly gifted recitation. Narative 'expression' would be a better word. Words fail.
