http://www.MontessoriSingapore.com The Montessori method is a unique way to educating children based on the research and experiences of Italian physician and educator Maria Montessori. She was born in Italy in 1850.
Dr Montessori was the first woman to receive a medical degree in Italy. After she graduated, she became director of a school for the mentally disabled in Rome.

While at this school, she formulated her philosophies, principles, and methods for the education of very young children. She achieved amazing results and the mentally disabled children under her guidance passed many exams normally given to normal children.

Her educational system, which is called the Montessori method, is widely acclaimed by educators and psychologists. The method arose essentially from Dr. Montessori's discovery of what she referred to as "the child's true normal nature" in 1907, which happened in the process of her experimental observation of young children given freedom in an environment prepared with materials designed for their self-directed learning activity.
Doctor Montessori lectured and wrote numerous books on learning and the child until her death in 1952.

Today, in Montessori schools all over the world, her teachings are used to support children with their natural self-directed learning activity.
