I guess it was a similar style that a lot of animes were doing in the late 80s.

@TsunamiWombat - Uh, both Saint Seiya and Ronin Warriors (Yoroiden Samurai Troopers) are done by the same animation studio.

I remember seeing the beginning of this intro in an episode, with a badly-done song. Went something like 'Powers in the ah-mor!' or something like that.
Regardless, an awesome anime.
