  • I am in my 50's and considering marrying a man who wants me to do IVF for a girl. He has only 3 sons. Does IVF hurt? I'm a chicken and I don't like pain. Childbirth was so painful I only had one child.

  • The most painful part for me was after the egg retrieval when my ovaries were still sensitive from the drugs. However, since you are in your 50's, I would imagine you will be using donor eggs or a donor embryo, so you won't have to go through ovarian stimulation. So, mostly you'll be dealing with labor again. It's a big decision, you should continue to research. I wish you luck.

  • Hi, Im going to be an egg donor..Im in the process of getting all my papers done. I just want to know if its painful?

  • @jimibilon1 The worst part about IVF is the side effects from the drugs, not the retrieval surgery which was mildly painful for me. There is also the pain you may experience from your ovaries being stimulated. It is pretty intense in my opinion and not an experience to be undertaken lightly. However, I have a close friend who went through IVF and had no real problems with symptoms. So it really depends on a person's reaction to the drugs. Good luck, I hope you make a wise decision for yourself.

  • I have a question for you guys.... How much follistim were you on in the beginning of your cycle if you don't mind me asking...

  • 100, I believe. I can't remember very well. May have started at 75 and bumped up to 100.

  • Also how many babies did u have or will have?

  • @LucidIVF.. I'm starting IVF in January and super nervous. Did u have to get an IV for the medication during the retrieval? If so did it hurt? I'm so afraid. I'm young 29 but have PCOS

  • @LucidIVF I have periods and my hormones levels are normal. I am perimenopasal. My family has a history of having children in their late 40's and early 50's. I hope I am the same since both my parents are from the same island and have still look young and are alive.
