Peter Hayward plays 'live' on a vintage Tonewheel Hammond. No automatics, no MIDI, no discs - just a couple of sets of drawbars.... and some magic fingers !!

  • I used to own one of these great organs as I am so sorry that I sold it! It was one of my favorite Hammond organs, besides the Concord 2307 and the original Piper. The pedals originally had croam on it as it looks great. My favorite it the modern contemporary style of this organ and the Arpeggiator!

  • @patsaxon Hi Pat, When I think of some of the wonderful instruments I have had the pleasure of owning, and then sold to get something 'better' - only to find out that the new 'better' instrument was not half as good as the one which I had parted with. Ah well... that's progress, I suppose?

    Best wishes - Peter :)

  • how wunderful! :)

  • @paranormaalutrecht Thankyou very much. Best wishes - Peter.

  • Peter have you played the X66? and if so which one do you like best? cheers

  • @decatlon14 Depends on the style. The X66 (to my ear) tended to be a bit brighter, a bit 'toppier' with its sounds, and so was absolutely brilliant for jazz or 'pop' tunes.

The X77 (which also had the couple of 'extra' drawbars producing higher overtones) I thought was rather mellower, and so suited 'theatrical' more romantic tunes. Maybe it is just me, or how the instruments were balanced at the time I played them.

Thanks for listening to my music, and for your kind comments. Peter :)

  • thanks for your answer you really are the master cheers

  • That was very entertaining and looked like fun. Twas great to see a real HAMMOND tone-wheel organ (X77) played well and also listen to. Cheers and thank you from Australia.

  • Peter have played the X66? what differences do you find between these two? awesome playing!

  • @ Harry. The X77 has a well-deserved reputation for problems including occasional fireworks! There are plenty of mods that can be done to make things better. Once working, it's a fine sounding organ.

@Peter. Some nice vids, my friend! Brings back some good memories of working with you back in 'the good old days'! Andy Gilbert
